Career History:

One of the most popular wrestlers in history, Big Daddy became interested in wrestling and bodybuilding under the influence of George Hackenschidt. He was a heel in the 50s and 60s before retiring for 15 years.

His brother Max Crabtree was an influential promoter in wrestling and brought Shirley back in. He often teamed with The Dynamite Kid, Steven Regal and Davey Boy Smith. He had famous fans including Margaret Thatcher and (rumour has it) the Queen herself!

He often teamed with up and comers in the wrestling world. Shirley held the Guiness World Record for the largest chest in Britain in 1978 (64 inches). Shirley suffered a stroke in 1993 and subsequently died of a heart attack age 67 in 1997.
